I can understand why one likes film. I find myself trying to "emulate" the feel of B&W film in PS far too often myself. Good to see some pros who haven't lost that magic despite their needs to publish fast. Really inspiring stuff on this web site, thanks for sharing your ideas.

Hey Chris, I bumped into Mark when he was here in the Philippines. Handed him a couple tiny calling cards. Hope he gets to hand one to you. He said he'd probably see you next week. I might drop by December, maybe we can kick it then.

some of your photos really inspires me, & i appreciate what you do.
Didn't know you had a film canon eos 1... Do you actually use it sometimes?
and, sad sad, do you know the Noctilux is no more?
Posted by on August 26, 2008 3:48 PM
Damn... lol Part of the thing I want to switch to canon is because my heavy duty lenses -85mm f/1.8 and 50mm f/1.8- have been in the reparation shop twice in the same year............. the 50mm had an unexplainable af chip going dead and the 85mm had an element that went out of the center, mind you that both lenses have never, ever, ever had an accident.... they decided to go kaput on their own....
Jebus... where do you say do you live?? do you leave your doors unlocked ?? ;) hahahaha

Cool of you to post all this. I was wondering what gear you used when you post sometimes. I'm more likely to buy / rent stuff if you reckon it's worked well for you, rather than certain gear "enthusiasts" we often refer to!
that means a lot, mate. i don't use anything that doesn't do it's job extremely well. i don't just "wonder" if it'll work ... it better effing work! ;)
That is obviously a ridiculously envious list to anyone who doesnt do that for a living. But as exhaustive as that list may be, i still have 2 questions!
Any reason you chose canon for dslr? "Because its better" would be an obvious answer, just curious to see if there was anything else in the balance.
Do you own a scanner or you send all your film out?
i shot nikon for so many years. in fact, i had a lot of money invested in the nikon system. one day i had not one but two d1x's go bad on me. while they were getting shutterboxes replaced i bought a canon 1d and the 70-200/2.8L. about that time one of the wires advised me they were dumping nikon. half of my friends shot canon and were loving it. so ... that's when the mark2 came out and pretty much revolutionized dslr's. canon held on to that for quite some time. the d2x, d2h and pretty much anything until the d3 came out .. were shit.
i will put a file from the 1dsm3 or a 5d up against a d3 any day of the week.
12mp isn't really shit in today's world.
that isn't to say that if some d3 variant comes out i won't give it a try.
what's funny is that i repaired more nikon glass than any of my canon. very interesting. everyone talked about nikon build quality and i didn't really find it to be true.
i own a konica/minolta but it takes up too much time; i send it all out.
@greenmantle: i hope you get to come over for that! the new album's sounding pretty good?
my friends and i swap equipment all of the time ... it's nice when you're using the same platform!
cheers!

I went to the NY B&H store when I was visiting the city last year... picked up a copy of Adobe CS3 Web Premium whilst I was there, and saved myself about £200 in the process. (UK users got royally screwed on upgrades... hoping they'll be a little less greedy when CS4 rolls around...) My sister picked up an iPod Nano... over here, only Amazon UK came close to matching the US price...
So if i take my shopping cart down to the "tall building" and stock up I'll be a professional photographer too? Fucking sweet - that's all I need, and of course my PRO flickr badge and I'm set (:
how long has it taken for you to get all these cameras together... i mean, how old were you? and out of curiosity, do you still have your first camera with you?
you should be doing weddings every weekend. there's more money in that than there is doing music. trust me on that. music=zero money. it's fun as hell to shoot but ... that's about it.
Posted by on August 02, 2008 11:59 AM
Yeah, i know.. i just cant get into the sway of dealing with brides and their mothers..
Im trying to put together a portfolio for CP, then next year concentrate on weddings and events
Well thank you for the list of your goodies, how long did you say you were going to be in Vegas for? Ha ha ha! I like those back pack you have listed, might have to pick one of those up soon. The NaneuPro Urban Gear U220 looks like a good pack for a trip.
You don't feel like, you know, mailing those Nikon mount zeiss lenses over for me to test on the D3 do you? *laughs* Morgan's about to buy a D700 too so we'd promise to share! LOL
Rockin, if I get to visit my sis when she moves over there for the rest of the year (the brutha in law is recording the next WM album) I'll be stopping by =)
I was very pleasantly surprised to see how well the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 performed for sports photography a few weeks back. Nikon is lacking a zoom to match this at that aperture and on the D3, freak me out that thing was fast! It made capturing shots of the knights jousting too easy and culling shots too hard. heheh
The team of fifteen shooters I took really rocked, we were swapping equip through the weekend and dammit, it tripled my wish list for event photography gear and new primes. I'm almost half way through getting them all to finish their processing so our photo library can be finalised for the year.
alright im just jealous because i had it all and then some a few months ago then like a retard i graduated and gave it all up... ok i didnt have it all we lacked Leica or mkIII but made up for it with Phase (which is purely useless for some and glorious for others) and Imacon scanners
I'm kinda interested in those FD-mount Zeiss optics. I got to geek out with a D300 a guy had modified with a split-image focusing screen and a Zeiss Distagon 35/2. It was like looking through an early F-series... but with all the convenience of digital... and Zeiss glass... AND being able to focus reliably!
Thanks ol man beneath the Hollywood sign ;-) (well, you're actually two or three years youger than I). That is actually an interesting list. You have a larger SLR than I do, the Contax versus my Leica R9. Ok, you don't use it that much, I know. But it's a great list, like "my 100 things" but much more useful. I might take up that idea.
The rugged LaCie disks - I didn't know those came with triple interface and in that size. I have the stationary ones - but I want some of those.
And then a big question: Do you have a 30" connected to the 15" - I want that too. Well, I like to have two almost mirrored computers for safety reasons, but I would like much more that setup.
You are the man! Thanks for all that info... I was actually asking myself the other day what kind of gear you have. Especially the digital since I'm not so familiar with it. That's great! You must have a good insurance :)
Have a great weekend! From sunny...rainy... then sunny again Montreal
Its comforting to know you didnt needf to put this up on your site ever to show off..
i need a backup body, thats it really. im glad i had the D300 tho, since it has dust seals, and i actually shot in a dusty place for 3days last weekend
now how long did it take you to acquire all of this? Man thats like....over 10,000 big ones of gear. Especially the leica gear. I can't imagine how long it took you to save up for that stuff. But hell I'm sure every cent is worth it.
Jesus, man! I can't even begin to imagine what shape your back would be in if you tried to porter all that gear at once! (Stupid, I know... but I couldn't help the image of you with all of it around you, toppling you over, as soon as I saw the length of the post).
I hope that 'quake didn't mess you guys up or anything at all. That shit happened like ten minutes after I was in the air out of San Diego! What a crazy fucking week that turned out to be, and I mean that in the best of ways. But, once I heard about it, I was hoping you and the gals and pups were all right.
Hm, didn't you shoot some ISO 25 film a while back with the noctilux wide open during daylight? Also, I'm really itching to get a Leica now, what's the best place to find one used? I could care less if the outside is beat-up as long as the innards are top-notch.
and, sad sad, do you know the Noctilux is no more?
